ARTEMİS TEMPLE

Ephesus; one of the most important regions of Izmir and Turkey and the most famous Greek city of the ancient times with a heritage dating back to 6 thousand BC

Artemis Temple (Greek: Artemision, Latin: Artemisium) is also known as the Temple of Diana. The temple, dedicated to the goddess Artemis, was completed in Ephesus 550 years ago. The temple was built entirely of marble. Only one or two pieces of marble are left behind today, which is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The ancient city in Turkey is located in Selçuk Izmir.

The temple is the work of a 120-year-old progeny initiated by the King of Lydia Kroisos. Compiling the seven wonders of the world, Sidon's Antipader described the temple as follows.

Above the haughty Babylon I saw the wall for war cars and the statue of Zeus in Alpheus and the hanging gardens, and the enormous workmanship of the colossus of the sun and the high pyramids and the vast tomb of Mausolos; But when I saw Artemis' house on the clouds, all the other wonders lost their brightness and I said, "Here!" Apart from Olimpus, the Sun never looked at anything so great (Antipater, Greek Anthology [IX.58]).

Byzantine Philon wrote the following for the temple:

I saw the mighty workmanship of the Kadim Babylonians and the tomb of Mausoleus. But when I saw the temple in Ephesus rising to the clouds, all the others were left in the shadows.
